Welcome

Christ Episcopal Church is a community of faith located in an historic, downtown church in Binghamton, New York.  Our commitment to serving the community of Binghamton is grounded in joyfully reverent worship and deeply rooted in the love of Jesus Christ.  All our welcome at Christ Church, whatever your tradition, wherever you are on your journey of faith.  Join us for worship each Sunday at 10:00 am in our 1851 Gothic revival, bluestone church or on our livestream.

Binghamton’s First Church

A historic parish with a future orientation

In September of 1810, Father Daniel Nash, a circuit rider of the Episcopal Church, met with local Episcopalians at the Binghamton Courthouse.  The group organized and in 1816 reincorporated as Binghamton Church.  The current Gothic revival styled building, designed by famed architect Richard Upjohn, was opened in March 1855 and the new Christ Church was established.  More than two hundred years after its inception, Christ Episcopal Church stands as a sign of Christ’s love in Binghamton.  The building speaks of longevity and resilience, and the community of people within spread Christ’s love with an eye to the future.  Through our CHOW pantry which distributes food, our Katie’s Clothing Closet and Winter Warmth Project that clothe people, or the beauty of our fellowship on own green space within the city, Christ Episcopal Church serves and sustains local residents with care, and honors the beauty of nature amidst the cityscape.  Together, we make a difference in the lives of individuals and the city of Binghamton.

All of us are called – each in our own way – to follow and to serve. All of us are called – each in our own way – to be made new in Christ – and to allow Christ to speak through us, to allow God to act within us and to reach out and touch others using our hands – our hearts – our words.

Rev. Jim Jones
Sermon, January 25, 2015
