Mother Katrina Grusell Joins Us Friday, September 16!
The Vestry is happy to announce that Mother Katrina will be our Interim Priest on a full time basis as we start our journey to find a successor to Mother Elizabeth. Mother Katrina brings with her a broad range of experience and the necessary skill set to support and guide us during this transitional period. Please join us on Sunday, September 18 to welcome Mother Katrina to Christ Church and to our community.
To the community of Christ Church, grace to you and peace as we enter this time of transition. I am so excited to join you in Binghamton and get to know you, your rich history, and the many ways you are sharing the love of Christ.
In these first weeks, we will create opportunities for me to get to know you and for members of the congregation to hear one another. I look forward to hearing about your experience of Christ Church—what drew you to the church and what connects you to others; how your faith is deepened by worship and service to the larger community of Binghamton; your role as a member and how the congregation develops leaders. Over the next year in the interim time, together we will reflect on who you are as a community of faith, who God is calling you to be, and who might be the best leader to guide you in the years to come.
With change comes uncertainty and anxiety. It’s helpful to note that every church across the country is currently at a crossroads due to the COVID pandemic. Faith communities everywhere have anxiety about who is really connected to church and what the future holds. This is understandable given the collective trauma we have all endured these two and a half years. While Christ Church has the added, typical uncertainty of clergy transition, know that the interim time will provide a wonderful opportunity to take stock, dream big, and begin planning for the future that God is calling you towards. Already, the Holy Spirit is preparing us to embrace possibility and the hope given to us in the Good News of Jesus Christ.
My heart is grateful for the opportunity to serve with you among the people of Binghamton. Our first Sunday together is September 18; please join me in worship and stay for coffee and conversation following the service. I look forward to seeing you soon.

Assisting Ukraine
Should you wish to assist people in Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees, here are two opportunities to consider:
1) Episcopal Relief and Development has created a special fund and is working to get assistance in and to refugee communities. Your funds will be matched by the Diocese if you donate through them. https://cnyepiscopal.org. You can also write a check to Christ Church.
2) Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church on 230 Ukrainian Hill Road in Johnson City is sending shipments directly to Europe to assist people.
They seek brand new children's clothes, underwear, socks, medical supplies, sanitary items for women, and other personal hygiene items.
You can drop these off at Sacred Heart Church directly or bring items to Christ Church and we will take them to Sacred Heart.
NO RESTRICTIONS FOR INDOOR WORSHIP SERVICES OR SOCIALIZING IN THE GREAT HALL!
Starting this Sunday, Christ Church will not have a masking or social distancing requirement. In checking with the Diocese, we were told that we "can make decisions locally, leaning on science and health guidance." In checking with the Broome County Health Department, we were told "there is no mask mandate or distancing requirement for non-healthcare settings."
Thank you for your patience and understanding throughout these difficult times.
