Pastoral statement on mass shooting in Buffalo from Bishop Michael Curry
My heart is heavy with the news that a white supremacist gunman took the lives of 10 children of God in Buffalo on Saturday. I grew up walking distance from the scene of this hateful crime, and my friends and I used to ride our bikes around the neighborhood. Buffalo’s Black community raised and formed me. I grieve with the city and people I love.
The loss of any human life is tragic, but there was deep racial hatred driving this shooting, and we have got to turn from the deadly path our nation has walked for much too long. Bigotry-based violence—any bigotry at all—against our siblings who are people of color, Jewish, Sikh, Asian, trans, or any other group, is fundamentally wrong. As baptized followers of Jesus of Nazareth, we are called to uphold and protect the dignity of every human child of God, and to actively uproot the white supremacy and racism deep in the heart of our shared life.
Please join me in prayer for the shattered families in Buffalo. Please also join me in expressing profound gratitude for the intervention by Buffalo police that likely saved many other lives. Even amid tragedy, even when manifestations of evil threaten to overwhelm, let us hold fast to the good. It is the only way that leads to life.

Announcements

Possible Covid Exposure
Please be aware someone who attended cabaret tested positive for Covid afterwards. The person largely was masked, but if you notice any symptoms or will be visiting anyone who should not be exposed, please get tested.
Covid is more prevalent now. Bishop DeDe tested positive after officiating at the celebration of new ministry at St. Mark's on May 10th.
Our protocol going forward is to stay masked when we gather, socially distance, including the choir as best as they can, get tested for Covid when symptoms appear, and support one another in staying connected in person as safely as we can.

Recruiting New Vestry Members
Please give prayerful consideration to being a member of the Vestry. The Vestry members whose three year terms are ending are: Mari McCormick; Maryse Quinn; Barb Stanton. Also, Kevin Shea's two year term as Senior Warden is ending.
The unexpired terms of Jim Davidson (two years) and Mark Smith (two years) will also need to be filled.
Mark Smith has agreed to run for the position of Junior Warden.
The Vestry generally meets once a month starting at 7:00 p.m., with the summer months off for good behavior. If you are interested in being on the Vestry, please contact Kevin Shea, the head of the Nominating Committee. We need you.

Two Positions Open: Part-time Sexton and Clerk of the Vestry
Christ Church has been blessed with wonderful property team leadership, currently Jim Davidson, who have undertaken or coordinated repair tasks around the church building and have kept an eye on the maintenance and condition of our space.
The Vestry decided to switch to a paid part-time sexton who would regularly check the building and who would coordinate and undertake repairs as needed.
We are working out the full structure, but please let Ed Sarzynski or Mother Elizabeth know if you have someone in mind, including yourself.
Nancy McGorry has served this church and the Vestry admirably as clerk of the Vestry. Accurate minutes and tracking of motions are important to our work. Nancy will be stepping down, and we are seeking someone as the new Clerk of the Vestry.
The main job is attending Vestry meetings and the annual meeting, keeping accurate minutes, sending these out for approval, and maintaining our Vestry notebooks. If interested, please contact Kevin Shea or Mother Elizabeth.

Assisting Ukraine
Should you wish to assist people in Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees, here are two opportunities to consider:
1) Episcopal Relief and Development has created a special fund and is working to get assistance in and to refugee communities. Your funds will be matched by the Diocese if you donate through them. https://cnyepiscopal.org. You can also write a check to Christ Church.
2) Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church on 230 Ukrainian Hill Road in Johnson City is sending shipments directly to Europe to assist people.
They seek brand new children's clothes, underwear, socks, medical supplies, sanitary items for women, and other personal hygiene items.
You can drop these off at Sacred Heart Church directly or bring items to Christ Church and we will take them to Sacred Heart.

Restrictions for Indoor Worship Services
Everyone will wear a mask when entering and exiting the sanctuary and when in line for communion. You may mask throughout the service and please return to distancing. We encourage everyone eligible for the Covid vaccine to receive it for their own safety and for the love of neighbor.
No offering plate will be passed. Gifts will be collected online or in plates placed near the Church entrance.
Parking in the Metro Center parking lot is available. Press the button and take a ticket to enter. Please leave the entry ticket in the car so that it is readily available when exiting. Ushers will provide a ticket which you will need to exit. Both tickets will be needed in order to exit.

We Are Christians by Our Love
“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:35 I long to be identified as Christian, as a follower of Jesus Christ, thanks to my acts of love and mercy, and an obvious sense of inner peace and joy. This no doubt will take a lifetime and beyond to …

We Need A Little Easter - Great 50 Days
The bunny ears disappeared. For a few weeks before Easter, our neighbor had dozens of colorful bunny ears placed in his hedge. It looked like many Easter bunnies were hiding out just waiting to deliver chocolate and eggs. Each time I drove by my heart lifted seeing this whimsy and knowing Easter was coming. The bunny ears disappeared just …
