Sunday is Rogation Sunday, the sixth Sunday of Easter and before the Feast of the Ascension. In our Episcopal-Anglican tradition this holiday is a time for blessing the fields and agricultural production. For me it is a wonderful time for planting or planning planting, depending on the date.
The collect below widens our Rogation practice to include celebrating the gift of all creation. We pray to be good stewards and care for the earth.
O merciful Creator, your hand is open wide to satisfy the
needs of every living creature: Make us always thankful for
your loving providence; and grant that we, remembering the
account that we must one day give, may be faithful stewards
of your good gifts; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with
you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever
and ever. Amen.
