Resting in God’s Mercy

As Autumn unfolds and surrounds us, as leaves change color, wither and fall, we are invited into a season of rest and reflection.
God invites us to rest in God’s love and mercy. We are held in the luminous web of God’s love. We swim in the sea of God’s mercy. (Psalm 103:10 Baumann translation) We live in love and mercy. Each breath we take draws in unconditional love. This love, freely given, is our essence. May we surrender to it and trust it.

Today it seems I am called to rest. The technology we have used for connection is not allowing me to share Morning Prayer, and I sense engagement with virtual worship is waning even as the quality of the shared service improves greatly.

This week may our spiritual practice be intentionally resting in God’s love. May we trust we in providence, God’s provision for us, an umbrella under which we stay safe. I invite each of us to take time to sit back, breathe and begin to notice the gracious embrace which surrounds and holds us always.

Rest into God’s embrace.

Collect for Guidance

Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our
being: We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by
your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our
life we may not forget you, but may remember that we are
ever walking in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
With every blessing,

Mother Elizabeth
