Restrictions for indoor worship services
|
We will continue to gather in person outside Saturday at 5:00 p.m. for Mass on the Grass and Sunday at 10:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary. With new CDC guidance and Broome County entering into the High new Covid cases zone, everyone will wear a mask when entering and exiting the sanctuary and when in line for communion. You may mask throughout the service and please return to distancing. We encourage everyone eligible for the Covid vaccine to receive it for their own safety and for the love of neighbor. Our Sunday worship is live-streamed and recorded through our YouTube channel: Christ Episcopal Church Binghamton.

No offering plate will be passed. Gifts will be collected online or in plates placed near the Church entrance.

Parking in the Metro Center parking lot is available. Press the button and take a ticket to enter. Please leave the entry ticket in the car so that it is readily available when exiting. Ushers will provide a ticket which you will need to exit. Both tickets will be needed in order to exit.

Saint Fiacre Day

|
|
Saint Fiacre day is August 29th. Saint Fiacre was a Catholic priest, abbot, hermit, and gardener of the seventh century who was famous for his sanctity and skill in curing infirmities. He emigrated from his native land, Ireland, to France, where he constructed for himself a hermitage together with a vegetable and herb garden, oratory, and hospice for travelers. He is the patron saint of gardeners.

Katie's Closet
|
Katie's Closet is open in-person the last two weeks of every month during the hours of CHOW. We also have an online system for people to shop virtually and pick up items. We currently have a small number of dedicated volunteers and are looking for more people who would be interested in helping to serve the community.
Katie's closet is open from 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays, and from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays with online assistance other times. If you are able to volunteer please call or e-mail the office. Thank you.

Broome County Council of Churches Press Connect Article

The Rev. Cris Mogenson’s parishioners in the Town of Dickinson can’t leave the premises but are still in need of spiritual guidance, nurturing and support.
|
“I try to connect people to the Lord,” Mogenson said.
|
Mogenson serves as the coordinating chaplain for jail ministry at the Broome County Jail in Dickinson, which is run through the Broome County Council of Churches. He, along with deacons Dorothy Pierce and Adeolu Ademoyo, minister to inmates at the jail. They serve all faiths.
|
|
“It’s not our job to proselytize,” Mogenson said.
|
|
When the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic struck last year, the team had to make some changes to their ministry. All group activities and services were suspended due to the virus, including programs and classes for parenting, literacy and recovery. But they can still visit inmates face-to-face while wearing masks, and conduct discharge planning and re-entry programs to help inmates transition back to life outside the facility.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, September 11!
|
|
To remember the people who lost their lives and their land, we would like to hold a service of remembrance at the Newtown Battlefield state park on September 11. We will read the Thanksgiving Address which is offered before every Haudenosaunee council meeting to honor the ways in which they relate to creation. We will also offer our own prayers for reconciliation, contrition, and hope.
|
Following our service at 11:00 a.m., we will have a picnic. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided. We have reserved a shelter for those attending.
Carpooling will be available should anyone need it.
|
We do need to have some idea of the interest in this event, and would appreciate an email note from anyone who would like to attend.
|
We are looking forward to this event as part of our participation in the Diocesan Racial Reconciliation team as an opportunity to enlighten ourselves and honor those who died there, both colonists and indigenous peoples.

Invitation to Sacred Ground
|
Sacred Ground is a program sponsored by the Episcopal Church to foster a dialogue on race and faith. It is a part of the Church’s goal to become a beloved community, and its commitment to racial healing, justice, and reconciliation. It is also a response to those who expressed a desire for a deeper conversation after our diocesan meeting on racial reconciliation. We will have a dialogue about our cultural divisions and about race and ethnicity within the framework of faith and justice, especially in our American culture.
|
I am hoping to organize and facilitate this discussion using the ten sessions designed by the program, meeting every other Thursday at 7:00 pm for ten sessions. Each session on Zoom will probably last about two hours. The program is intensive and requires some homework before each time we enter into discussion. Much of it is based on film and videos, although there is some reading to do as well.
|
At this point I would like to limit the group to about 10-12 people, and I am first inviting parishioners from our district. Because of the limit, it will be important to commit to staying with the program for the ten sessions, along with doing the prework. We can decide together once we get started how the schedule will work. We are planning to start on Thursday September 23.
|
I am excited to organize and facilitate this program. It has received many accolades, and has helped folks come to a better understanding of how racism affects us personally, as well as its place in our culture.
|

Recovery Month Worship Service
|
National Recovery Month is observed every September to honor all those working on or sustaining their recovery from substance use disorders and mental health diagnoses. It takes community to heal and support the courageous individuals who are on this path. We also honor family members, health care professionals, and community leaders who are helping to transform lives. The theme this year is "Recovery is for Everyone: Every person. Every Family. Every Community."

This year our Diocese will once again hold a Recovery Worship Service of prayers and thanksgivings. The Rev. Deacon Kay Drebert and Bishop DeDe Duncan-Probe invite you to join them on Sunday, September 26th at 6:00 p.m. either via Zoom or in person at Christ Episcopal Church in Binghamton, NY.

If you plan on attending please REGISTER so we can keep you updated. We welcome you to participate in this service through sharing prayers, or your offerings of poetry and music.
