Beautiful Sounds

Thank you Paul for inviting violinist Dolly Murphy to perform at last Sunday's worship service. A remarkable talent at such a young age. With your playing on the Thomas Baby Grand, you and Dolly produced beautiful sounds before, during, and after the service. Bravo!

Two Positions Open: Part-time Sexton and Clerk of the Vestry

Christ Church has been blessed with wonderful property team leadership, currently Jim Davidson, who have undertaken or coordinated repair tasks around the church building and have kept an eye on the maintenance and condition of our space.

The Vestry decided to switch to a paid part-time sexton who would regularly check the building and who would coordinate and undertake repairs as needed.

We are working out the full structure, but please let Ed Sarzynski or Mother Elizabeth know if you have someone in mind, including yourself.

Nancy McGorry has served this church and the Vestry admirably as clerk of the Vestry. Accurate minutes and tracking of motions are important to our work. Nancy will be stepping down, and we are seeking someone as the new Clerk of the Vestry.

The main job is attending Vestry meetings and the annual meeting, keeping accurate minutes, sending these out for approval, and maintaining our Vestry notebooks. This is a volunteer position. If interested, please contact Kevin Shea or Mother Elizabeth.

Katie's Closet

We are currently looking for volunteers for a couple of hours each month to help with the clothing closet.

Thank you!

Christ Church Amazon

When you're shopping on Amazon, go to smile.amazon.com and list "Christ Church Binghamton" as your charity of choice. The Church will receive .5 % of your purchase!

Over $600 has been given to Christ Church from your Amazon purchases since its program began. THANK YOU for designating Christ Church to receive these proceeds. Every little bit helps.

Assisting Ukraine

Should you wish to assist people in Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees, here are two opportunities to consider:

1) Episcopal Relief and Development has created a special fund and is working to get assistance in and to refugee communities. Your funds will be matched by the Diocese if you donate through them. https://cnyepiscopal.org. You can also write a check to Christ Church.

2) Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church on 230 Ukrainian Hill Road in Johnson City is sending shipments directly to Europe to assist people.

They seek brand new children's clothes, underwear, socks, medical supplies, sanitary items for women, and other personal hygiene items.

You can drop these off at Sacred Heart Church directly or bring items to Christ Church and we will take them to Sacred Heart.

Restrictions for Indoor Worship Services

Everyone will wear a mask when entering and exiting the sanctuary and when in line for communion. You may mask throughout the service and please return to distancing. We encourage everyone eligible for the Covid vaccine to receive it for their own safety and for the love of neighbor.

No offering plate will be passed. Gifts will be collected online or in plates placed near the Church entrance.

Parking in the Metro Center parking lot is available. Press the button and take a ticket to enter. Please leave the entry ticket in the car so that it is readily available when exiting. Ushers will provide a ticket which you will need to exit. Both tickets will be needed in order to exit.

Despite the changes around us we are a Church and a community that stands together in faith despite adversity. We feel fortunate to have each other during these difficult and uncertain times.

Come Let Us Worship and Bow Down

“The people stand or kneel.” This is a favorite rubric in the Book of Common Prayer, rubrics being our directions for worship. When included in the 1979 Prayer Book, this was meant to be congregation-wide, but we, true Anglicans, decided it was personal. We each can respond as is most worshipful for us, to stand or to kneel. …

A Few Thoughts on the Whole Story

A Few Thoughts on the Whole Story
Going about my day I can easily forget the flooding in Yellowstone, hungry children, mass shootings of other people just going about their day, and gruesome wars. I forget to look until W.H. Auden reminds me of the whole story and our tendency to avoid it in his poem “Musee des Beaux Arts.” (printed below) Auden considers two paintings: …
