Announcements

Since our secretary, Desireé, is returning from a well-deserved week of vacation, I am writing this week to thank all of you who submitted photos and written cards to be included in Mother Elizabeth's memory journal.
Her final service, July 31st , was beautiful and the reception enjoyed by everyone. Many thanks to all who planned, prepared, and participated in making this possible.

The rummage will be brought upstairs on Sunday, October 9th.
Setup will take place Monday - Thursday. Volunteers are needed to help bring rummage upstairs as well as set up throughout the week, even an hour or two would be a great help.

Christ Church Asked to Be a Gathering Place for Convention
Bishop DeDe has asked Christ Church to be a Gathering Place for the Diocesan convention in November. Only three other churches were asked to be a Gathering Place: Ss. Peter and John in Auburn; Zion in Rome; and Trinity in Watertown. Gathering Places will, for the near future, replace the convention being held in Syracuse each year.
Bishop Dede wished to try a "regional" approach to the convention this year as not only a cost saving to the Diocese as well as to the Churches attending, but also to have delegates experience the benefits of smaller gatherings. The Vestry enthusiastically accepted the Bishop's request. Details of our responsibilities as a Gathering Place in future editions of Heads Up. Way to go Christ Church!

Assisting Ukraine
Should you wish to assist people in Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees, here are two opportunities to consider:
1) Episcopal Relief and Development has created a special fund and is working to get assistance in and to refugee communities. Your funds will be matched by the Diocese if you donate through them. https://cnyepiscopal.org. You can also write a check to Christ Church.
2) Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church on 230 Ukrainian Hill Road in Johnson City is sending shipments directly to Europe to assist people.
They seek brand new children's clothes, underwear, socks, medical supplies, sanitary items for women, and other personal hygiene items.
You can drop these off at Sacred Heart Church directly or bring items to Christ Church and we will take them to Sacred Heart.

Restrictions for Indoor Worship Services
Everyone will wear a mask when entering and exiting the sanctuary and when in line for communion. You may mask throughout the service and please return to distancing. We encourage everyone eligible for the Covid vaccine to receive it for their own safety and for the love of neighbor.
No offering plate will be passed. Gifts will be collected online or in plates placed near the Church entrance.
Parking in the Metro Center parking lot is available. Press the button and take a ticket to enter. Please leave the entry ticket in the car so that it is readily available when exiting. Ushers will provide a ticket which you will need to exit. Both tickets will be needed in order to exit.

Thursday Reflection reminds me of a favorite experience of 8th grade. Our English teacher gave us a standing assignment: write or speak about a subject of your choice each week. I loved standing assignment, offering my fondness for Piglet (having sewn my own stuffed toy) and my wrestling with the Vietnam war. In this space, I have …
