While Christmas brings festivities and celebration, for some, it can be difficult to anticipate a joyful holiday season. Whether you have suffered a loss, experience anxiety, are struggling with illness or a difficult diagnosis, or troubled by life's challenges, the darker days of December can be difficult. Tidings of Comfort is a worship service designed to help us appreciate the nature of hope and expectancy that Advent offers as we await God's promises. All are welcome to attend to receive support and to support others.

Thank
A hearty thanks to Sue & Ed Sarzynski, Scot & Susan MacLennan, Marianne McCormick, and Stacey Gould & Jim Ehmke for offering their homes for our cottage meetings, and to Gene & Barb Stanton for hosting the meeting in the Great Hall. Susan MacLennan coordinated these meetings, where people had an opportunity to get to know one another; share hopes, dreams, and concerns; and begin to imagine a future for Christ Church. Thank you, Susan! Vestry will discuss what was shared in these meetings at its December meeting and report back to the congregation in the new year. Christ Church leaders will continue to find ways to listen and engage parishioners as we continue to strengthen our parish for the future.

Outreach

Winter Warmth

Binghamton's Festival of Lights at Otsiningo Park has once again partnered with Christ Church in support of our Winter Warmth project.

Members of the community can drop off hats, scarves, gloves, and winter coats while attending viewings for the Festival of Lights. All items collected will be donated to Christ Church.

Specifics regarding the date and time will be provided next week.

Donations of hats, scarves, gloves, packs of thick socks, and coats can be donated to the church in support of our Winter Warmth project and Katie's Clothing Closet after the Sunday worship service, or any time during office hours.

Reverse Advent — 24 Days of Giving

Our Reverse Advent - 24 Days of Giving program is underway and we are asking for your support. Our CHOW food pantry is dependent on donations of food and personal care items by hundreds of people every year, especially in winter. Please help us continue the Christ Church tradition of providing support to those in need. Our goal is to feed 24 families at Christmas.

Reusable shopping bags with custom logos have been donated for use in shopping for and collecting these items. Please fill these bags with the items listed and return them to church. Bags and items can be returned weekly (to reduce the weight of the items when being carried in) or in one drop off, either on or before Christmas Eve. Mother Katrina will bless these bags on Sunday, December 31.

Active participation in this project is preferred, however monetary donations can be made for CHOW personal shoppers to fill a bag for you. A jar in the back of the Sanctuary has been provided to collect monetary donations.

Together we can make a difference.

Blessings to you and your family during this Advent season.

Christmas Memorials 2022

We are currently collecting donations for the Christmas Memorial flowers. Christmas Memorials may be made in any amount for as many names as you wish to include toward the plants for the altar. Altar flower forms can be found in the back of the Sanctuary, or you can contact Barb Stanton directly by phone: (315) 560-04165.

We have memorial names used in the past on file. If you are repeating your list, please write “same names” on the form. After completing the form, include it with your check and place it on the collection plate or give it to Barb Stanton. Checks should be made payable to “Christ Church” with “Altar Flowers” in the notation section.

Sunday, December 18th, is the last day names can be accepted.

2023 Liturgical Calendars are now available. This year’s photo features Father Jim, Mother Katrina and Deacon Kay. Calendars will be available on Sunday during Coffee Hour in the Great Hall or in the Church Office Monday thru Thursday. We are happy to announce the cost remains at $5.00 each. Thanks to Ed Sarzynski for supplying the great photo. Questions can be directed to Barb Stanton.
