Annual Meeting
Christ Episcopal Church will hold its annual meeting on January 17, 2021 opening at 10 a.m. with our worship service. The meeting and worship will be on Zoom with options to vote by mail or to call in.
|
The nominating committee of Ed Sarzynski, John Endress and Mark Smith will accept nominations for Vestry member and Warden. To date Maryse Quinn, Barb Stanton and Marianne McCormick have agreed to run again for Vestry, and Kevin Shea has agreed to run again for Warden.
In order to prepare ballots for mail-in/ electronic voting, please submit the name of any additional nominee for Vestry member or Warden by Monday, January 11.

A nominee must be a member in good standing and at least 16 years old. The term for a Vestry member is three years. The term for a Warden is two years.
|
In addition to voting for Warden and Vestry members voting will take place to change the date of the annual meeting from the third Sunday in January to the second Sunday in June.

Indigenous People Book Study
|
Starting on February 24th, 2021 (the Wednesday following Ash Wednesday) this group will begin focusing on Indigenous peoples from the perspective of the Episcopal Church. It is our hope that this will be a good first step to better understand the history of the peoples that once occupied the land we live and worship on. The base of our discussion will be the book "The Four Vision Quests of Jesus" by Bishop Steven Charleston. Bishop Charleston is a retired Episcopal Bishop and a Choctaw Elder. This book explores the relationship between Christianity and indigenous religions. Our discussions will be supplemented by a video on the Doctrine of Discovery by The Rev. Dr. Bradley Hauff, the Canon Missioner for Indigenous Ministries, and a review of local Haudensaunee history as revealed by local historical markers. As the Onondaga, Cayuga and Oneida Nations used to live in the Southern Tier, our discussion will focus on these groups of people.

Katie's Clothing Closet & Winter Warmth
|
We have received a generous donation of men's, women's and children's winter coats and jackets for Katie's Clothing Closet. We encourage parishioners to spread the word! Our clothing closet hours can be found on our website under the events tab.
|
While we are not accepting clothing donations at this time we continue to to accept donations of children's clothing as well as winter coats, socks, and underwear.
We are currently in need of scarves and more masculine hats, scarves, and gloves sets for our Winter Warmth project. Donations can be dropped off during office hours. If you decide to create your own bags to tie to the railing please let the office know so we can keep track of how many bags we put out this year. Our total was well over 250 bags in 2019!

COVID-19 Does Not Prevent us From Receiving Bills!
2021 Pledges: In these disruptive, extraordinary times, Christ Church has had to re-evaluate its financial outlook for next year as a result of declining income over the past six+ months. In addition to a decline in contributions, we have lost income from church services (e.g., weddings, Cabaret, rummage sales, rentals of facility, and space utilization.) We expect this will continue in 2021, causing a financial operating shortfall of approximately $90,000.

In addition, we are faced with a yet to be determined expense for roof repair work. Fortunately, some part of this potential cost will be covered by funds which have already been set aside.
|
|
Please consider helping us fill the substantial financial gap facing us as you make or pay your pledge for 2021.
|
|
|
Pledges and other donations can be mailed to the church. If you do not have envelopes, we will use the name on your check.
|
|

I cannot tell you how the light comes, but that it does. That it will. That it works its way into the deepest dark that enfolds you, though it may seem long ages in coming or arrive in a shape you did not foresee.
|
And so we pray we may turn ourselves toward the light giving thanks for Christ’s birth and this communion. May we lift our faces to let the light find us. May we bend our bodies to follow the arc it makes. May we open and open more and open still to the blessed light that comes. *
