A Message from Mother Katrina

“Jeremiah was confined in the court of the guard that was in the palace of the king of Judah” as Jerusalem was besieged by the King and army of Babylon. (Jeremiah 32:2) How devastating it must have been for Jeremiah to hear the violence and destruction taking place beyond the palace walls, to see in the dark of the night the glow of consuming enemy fires. In the midst of this turmoil, the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, and he was instructed to buy a field. Imagine purchasing property in the midst of war as land is being seized by foreign invaders! But faithful Jeremiah followed God’s will and bought the land. After the deed was sealed in an earthenware jar, the Lord promised, “Houses and fields and vineyards shall again be bought in this land.” What a stunning vision of hope to sustain Jeremiah.

Sometimes God invites us to do unexpected, counter-intuitive things. It is so important to always be listening, discerning, where God is leading. Our lives are full of distractions and our spirits often weighed down by the cares of the world. Yet, listening hearts will be led by the Holy Spirit and blessed in ways beyond our limited vision. As we rebuild the Christ Church community following the COVID pandemic, I invite you to listen well—to the Spirit moving among us and to one another. What ways might Christ be calling you to serve now? How is the Spirit moving your heart to connect within this community? As we worship regularly in person and enjoy renewed fellowship, I am confident we will move towards the bright future God intends.

With deep gratitude for my call to Christ Church,
Mother Katrina

Announcements

Sunday School

Sunday School has started. There are two classes and a Nursery. There is a class for primary age children from preschool up to third grade. Another class goes from fourth grade to sixth grade. We meet at 10:00 am until approximately 10:30am. The children will come upstairs after the exchange of the peace so that they and their teachers can take communion.

We are glad to be back in person. During the pandemic the only class that met was the Intermediate class and they met only online. They did a great job and even had an E -Christmas Pageant in church. This year they are going to try having a hybrid class to accommodate students who can't come to church. We hope to see you in the classrooms and in church soon.

Please contact Debbie Pennington with any questions or concerns about Sunday School. Her email address is: dcleod@gmail.com or phone number: 607-760-7467.

Christ Church Amazon

When you're shopping on Amazon, go to smile.amazon.com and list "Christ Church Binghamton" as your charity of choice. The Church will receive .5 % of your purchase!

$694.24 has been given to Christ Church from your Amazon purchases since its program began. THANK YOU for designating Christ Church to receive these proceeds. Every little bit helps.

Assisting Ukraine

Should you wish to assist people in Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees, here are two opportunities to consider:

1) Episcopal Relief and Development has created a special fund and is working to get assistance in and to refugee communities. Your funds will be matched by the Diocese if you donate through them. https://cnyepiscopal.org. You can also write a check to Christ Church.

2) Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church on 230 Ukrainian Hill Road in Johnson City is sending shipments directly to Europe to assist people.

They seek brand new children's clothes, underwear, socks, medical supplies, sanitary items for women, and other personal hygiene items.

You can drop these off at Sacred Heart Church directly or bring items to Christ Church and we will take them to Sacred Heart.

NO RESTRICTIONS FOR INDOOR WORSHIP SERVICES OR SOCIALIZING IN THE GREAT HALL!

Starting this Sunday, Christ Church will not have a masking or social distancing requirement. In checking with the Diocese, we were told that we "can make decisions locally, leaning on science and health guidance." In checking with the Broome County Health Department, we were told "there is no mask mandate or distancing requirement for non-healthcare settings."

Thank you for your patience and understanding throughout these difficult times.
